New RUBiS Gas Station to Enhance Convenience for Portmore Highway Users by 2025
Motorists using the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 East-West can look forward to increased convenience in 2025 with the addition of a new gas station. TransJamaican Highway Limited (TJH), the developer of the six-lane carriageway, has announced that RUBiS Energy will construct a service station along the highway.
“The service station is designed to improve the customer experience on the highway. Commuters will not only be able to refuel with RUBiS Energy petrol or diesel but also take advantage of the convenience store,” said Melbourne Lyn-Cook, TJH’s quality and maintenance engineer manager.
Lyn-Cook noted that the Portmore highway corridor serves 30,000-40,000 vehicles daily, making the new rest stop a valuable addition for commuters. “We know our customers will appreciate the opportunity to refuel, pick up groceries, or grab snacks from the restaurant on their way home in the evenings,” he added.
This will be the second service station on Highway 2000 East-West, following the Total Jamaica station that opened on the eastbound Old Harbour ramp in St. Catherine in 2019.
The new RUBiS station will cover 0.4 hectares of land, located just west of the current Highway 2000 East-West sales and administrative offices. Motorists traveling from Kingston will have access from the parking lot area, and the construction will not impact the nearby national heritage site at Fort Augusta.
Once completed, drivers coming from Portmore can access the station from Port Henderson Road (Back Road) before merging onto the highway via the flyover bridge. According to Lyn-Cook, the station’s highest demand for fuel is expected during the evening rush, which is why the westbound side was chosen to serve customers returning home after work or activities in Kingston.
